With recreational cannabis use in effect this week, people are waiting in lines at the 250 locations able to sell this product. New Mexico dispensaries were prepared compared to other states such as Nevada and Arizona, which only had double-digit locations when recreational sales became available. According to the Cannabis Control Division, New Mexico sold a record $1.96 million in the first day.

What Neighbors think

Ash, who did not want to give his last name said, “It is exciting because I like weed.”

He said the only reason they’re doing it is because of the taxes, so it is necessary for it benefit everyone. If money couldn’t be made, it never would’ve happened.

“My parents are from a generation where the getting of weed was traumatizing, like shady places to get it from dangerous people, so I am excited for them,” he said.

Chloe Kaitlin and Mandy said they’re excited and it’s amazing it’s finally happening here.

Mandy said, “Then they can at least start focusing on real crime,” while Chloe said, “There are already so many states that have it, so why not us?”

Jeanette said she doesn’t have opinions or qualms with it and doesn’t really care either way.

“I’m for it for medicinal purposes; I just don’t want it getting in the hands of younger people, because I’ve seen that happen,” she said.
