The market is in its first year of inception but hopes to grow over the years to come, said Darcy Bushnell, president of the board for Alvarado Park Neighborhood Association and Mile-Hi Farmers’ Market board member. Patrons appreciate the intimate community environment the market offers, she added.
Last weekend’s market brought roasted green chile, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, leeks, onions, cucumbers, herbs, kale, potatoes and micro-greens. There are also baked goods, jerky and food truck vendors, artisan crafts and products, a little library maker, compost instructor and even a spontaneous poet to write patrons their own one-of-a-kind poem.
The market accepts EBT, WIC and does the double-up program.
It’s fun for the whole family located at Alvarado Park, 2000 Alvarado NE, and includes a playground for children. Dogs are welcome, but organizers ask that pets are kept on a leash. The farmers market will continue every Sunday until Sept. 25.
