Lt. Deanne Otzenberger has officially taken over as the acting commander of the Northeast Command of the Albuquerque Police Department, effective July 16.

She was most recently the night watch commander for the Northeast Command from spring 2020 to spring 2022 and is aware of the challenges and successes of the area.

Otzenberger began her career with the Albuquerque Police Department in 2008 after getting her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico and spending more than five years as a University of New Mexico Police Department Officer. She has worked patrol in various areas of the Field Services Bureau, as sergeant in the Internal Affairs Professional Standards Unit, Internal Affairs Force Division, and as the recruiting sergeant before returning to the field as a lieutenant.

Previous Acting Commander Greg Weber said, “Acting Commander Otzenberger has already been assisting me in handling daily operations in an effort to ensure a smooth transition for you all.  I have worked with Deanne for many years, and I am both excited for her to have this opportunity and excited for our northeast residents to continue to have great leadership in your area command. I think you will find her to be a very effective area commander.”

Weber said he has enjoyed the strong support of his policing efforts from the Heights community for the last two years.

“I cannot say enough great things about what the citizens of this command do to support the officers as well as to support our crime-fighting efforts; our members are engaged more than any other area command. It was an honor to work here, and I hope the partnership between the area command and the community continues to grow over the next few years.”
