The Jewish Community Center located at Wyoming, just south of Academy, offers a unique space where anyone can come in and join.

The community center has so much to offer, whether you want to rent a space for an event, come work out or take a pottery class, the JCC has a variety of recreation and services.

The JCC has an enriched learning summer camp jammed with activities, a walk-in day care for gym parents, and a day care serving infants to age 5.

An activities room for ages 5-13 offers games like air hockey, foosball and an assortment of movies and video game systems to play.

There is a classroom also set up for art, pottery and writing classes, as well as senior-based social events, clubs and classes.

There is a full-service gym, fully equipped with state-of-the art and recently updated cardio equipment, a running track, full basketball court and just about any other exercise machine you can imagine.

The air filtration system, called Halo, is designed to filter out bacteria/mold/viruses and makes going to the gym post-COVID-19, a safer and clean and odor-free environment in which to work out.

Several exercise classes are offered, to include:

• Yoga

• Zumba

• Powerflex

• La Blast

• Spin

• Pilates

There is also a full staff of personal trainers who have specifically centered workouts like chair yoga for seniors or barre stretching.

Chris Blackwell, personal trainer at the JCC, holds a certification for mixed martial arts conditioning and said he has an array of people he trains, not just people looking to start a career in MMA, but folks just wanting to try something different than the usual workout.

For instance, while speaking to Blackwell, and while training a father and son duo, he explained, “These guys come here to learn endurance and self-discipline in a fun and collaborative way with each other.”

A gym membership includes two free personal training sessions.

The center also houses therapy, kiddie, and a quarter-sized heated Olympic swimming pools, where lessons and therapy sessions are offered.

At the end of your workout, there are his-and-hers steam rooms, lockers, showers and private vanity areas, all with products provided.

You can also stop at the deli that offers New York style bagels, even by the dozen, matzo ball soup and an assortment of traditional Jewish dishes.

The deli can cater events and often supplies meals to surrounding schools.

Marketing Director Chris Martinez explained the facility has both indoor and outdoor venues to accommodate anyone wanting to rent a space. A small amphitheater, sand volleyball, futsal and soccer fields are adjacent to the outdoor seating that can hold 275 people, equipped with sun-shaded tenting and grills for cooking.

There is also an annex garden where the JCC hopes to expand to a massive garden space equipped with a composting system and greenhouse, producing fruit and veggies where plans to donate to folks in need will kick off.

“We are so excited to get this project off the ground this spring and start educating people about their food and be able to give back some to the community,” Martinez said.

Additionally, free rapid COVID-19 testing is provided in the entrance parking lot.

Most of the facilities provided at the JCC were paid for by donors of the Jewish faith.

The JCC does offer faith-based services and a library for anyone wanting to learn about the Jewish faith, as well as for children to prepare for faith-based learning.

With so much to offer, the JCC is a community center that goes above and beyond the basics.
