Cross-country

The boys finished second and the girls were fifth at the 2022 NMAA State Cross Country Meet Saturday at Albuquerque Academy.

Both teams won the state meet in 2021. The highest finisher for the boys was Thomas Croshaw, who was second. Carysa Marquez paced the girls with a sixth-place finish.

Football

The Hawks began the postseason the same way they finished the regular season: With a 50-point win over Atrisco Heritage. Volcano Vista advanced to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs with a 64-14 win Friday over Atrisco, which they beat 50-0 on Oct. 28.

Quarterback Elliot Paskett-Bell threw for 269 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Hawks. Volcano Vista travels to play Hobbs at 7 p.m. Friday.

Volleyball

The Hawks ended the regular season by beating Atrisco Heritage 3-0 Thursday to finish with a 12-11 record. That earned VVHS a 12-seed in the NMAA State Tournament this weekend. The Hawks will play Cibola at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rio Rancho Events Center.
