Why wait until Oct. 31 to get spooky?

People in the neighborhood are invited to attend “A Spooky Good Time” from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Ventana West Park.

The event is sponsored by Be Kind Real Estate and Coldwell Banker Legacy. Erika Peña, a realtor at Coldwell Banker Legacy and a former teacher-librarian at Tony Hillerman Middle School, has organized the event.

“I live in the neighborhood and have three kids,” Peña said. “As family-packed as the neighborhood is, we really don’t do much with the space.”

The event will feature Halloween fun, lawn games, face painting, door prizes and pumpkin decorating.

Peña said nearly 200 free pumpkins will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Peña also organized a “Dump Your Junk” event in the neighborhood in the spring.

“Since I’ve changed professions, it’s just public service,” Peña said. “It’s just a good way to give back to the community.”

The event this weekend is free and open to all ages.

“You don’t need a kid to come,” Peña said. “All ages are welcome, so if you’re looking for something fun to do, come check it out.”
