More than half of Madison Middle School’s students made honor roll for the 2021-2022 school year, according to principal Tammy Crespin. Students get on the honor roll when they have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Parents, students and staff celebrated the occasion at the school gym on Feb. 22, where certificates of recognition were handed out.
“We are doing something right here at Madison, and these students are the proof,” Crespin said during the after-school assembly. “They have shown determination and dedication this school year, and we are thriving. Way to go Magic students.”
Madison Middle School feeds both La Cueva and Sandia high schools, with students living across school boundaries in the Northeast Heights. Before handing out certificates, Crespin gave thanks to all the parents in attendance.
“We want to thank you for supporting and guiding your students. This school year has been one of the most challenging ever,” Crespin said. “All the late-night homework help, the runs to Walmart for craft supplies – you know all those wonderful Egyptian projects you had to do. But I know you have also encouraged them, cheered them on, advised them. So, thank you, parents and guardians, for doing that. You are magical.”
According to a 2021 US News report, Madison ranked 60th for all middle schools in New Mexico and eighth for Albuquerque Public Schools middle schools with a student population of 753. For the 2021-22 school year, 29 sixth-grade students received a 4.0 grade point average, with a total of 83 sixth-graders making honor roll.
