With gas on the rise and fluctuating from one day to the next, people are searching out the cheaper stations around town. Here are few tips as well as a few locations under $4 a gallon.

According to Gasbuddy and Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan, the earlier days of the week tend to be the cheaper days to fill up. Monday and Tuesday tend to be the best days, but he emphasized that is not always the case.

Also, checking fluids like oil and tire pressure can make a difference in how much gas drivers can get from their car by optimizing miles per gallon. Experts also say you shouldn’t let your car get lower than a quarter of a tank for better performance.

It is advised to get a savings membership such as at Smith’s Grocery, where you can build gas points and save an average of 20 cents per gallon. Another example is Murphy’s Gas Stations, owned by Walmart, which tend to be cheaper than the average stations on top of savings earned.

Best locations to fill up this week in the Northeast:

• Murphy Express at 9700 Montgomery Blvd. NE, as of Tuesday, is starting at $3.87 per gallon.

• Murphy Express at 1358 Wyoming Blvd. NE is at $3.86

• Sam’s Club and Costco at 1420, and 1421 N. Renaissance Blvd. NE are both starting at $3.77 per gallon.
