Former Eldorado High School student Jessie Hix is going pro. In early April, Professional Soccer Consulting Ltd. announced Hix’s signing with Medkila IL, a professional women’s soccer team in Norway.

“PSC are proud to announce the signing of Jessica Hix to her first professional contract with Norwegian outfit Medkila IL,” the April 7 announcement reads. “Having graduated from University of New Mexico the Albuquerque native was ready for a new challenge and found it in the form of a professional contract in Europe with Medkila IL.”

Hix ran for the Eldorado track and field team, played varsity soccer for the Eagles, played for Rio Rapids SC, and the University of New Mexico women’s soccer team.

In 2016, Hix broke the state record for the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:12.26, was named athlete of the meet the same year, and again in 2013. In 2012, she was named player of the game in a soccer matchup against Sandia and in 2013 she was named player of the game for her role against Volcano Vista’s varsity soccer team.

Hix is mentioned in a 2014 Albuquerque Journal for a tie-scoring goal she made while playing for Rio Rapids SC and is praised by UNM head coach Heather Dyche and fellow lady Lobo Paris Mckenzie in a 2019 Twitter post.

When asked about Hix’ signing with Medkila, Dyche responded, “Jessie Hix is one of the hardest working, passionate and talented players to come wear the New Mexico jersey. More importantly, she is a kind, empathetic, thoughtful person who I am grateful to know. She deserves this opportunity and so many more.”

Hix returns the admonishment in a question-and-answer session with PSC, in which she thanks Dyche saying, “She has played a huge role in my development as a player and as a person.” Dyche oversaw Hix’s training at UNM along with assistant coach Paul Maestas, who was Hix’s head coach while at Eldorado.

Medkila IL is currently at the bottom of the standings in its division and is scheduled to play KIL/Hemne May 8 in a first-round game of the Norwegian Women’s Cup. Medkila beat Mjølner 9-1 on May 4. It is unknown when Hix will play in her debut match with Medkila, but she is expected to be a boost to the team. Hix and University of Nebraska forward Natalie Cooke signed with Medkila at the same time.

“Both players will be making their debut pro seasons in the Norwegian second tier as the club have brought in strong talent in an attempt to push for promotion back to the top tier,” The PSC release states.

When asked by PSC what she most looks forward to while playing in Norway, Hix responded, “I am looking forward to continuing to play the game that I love while experiencing a new culture. I have always been in awe with the landscape and way of life in Norway. I’m quite excited to experience both first hand.”
