Fat Axe has a couple of options when it comes to chucking objects about.

The newly opened axe throwing and rage room opened in September in the Louisiana Shopping Center, and all target areas were full on a Tuesday afternoon. According to owner Justice Curry, the business has been doing well so far. The business started as a mobile axe throwing venue, covering private parties, corporate or team-building events, and festivals.

Safety is always first in mind at Fat Axe, and all participants must read the safety guidelines and sign a liability waiver. Guests must be 12 years or older to throw, and it’s suggested to wear fitted, non-restricting clothes and close-toed shoes.

If people are apprehensive and don’t know how to the throw an axe, the “axeperts” will show players how to safely chuck an axe with practice of proper techniques. There are also throwing knives and stars.

The rage room, a popular activity starting in countries like Japan and making its way to the States, allows people to throw, break and demolish objects from electronics to glass and dishes. Screaming is also encouraged. The rage room is a therapeutic form of rage and stress release and can become an addictive activity, according to patrons.

The location has a limited food menu and sports lounge with seating. The menu offers bacon-covered hot dogs, large-portion chile fries and fried Twinkies, as well as Mexican favorites such as chamoy fruit cups, esquite sweet corn and loaded churros.

Curry said he hopes to nix the rage room eventually and focus on evolving the menu options and adding a brewery side for the location. He hopes to partner with well-known breweries such as Marble and Bosque to offer numerous local options.
