Firefighter and Eldorado alumni Benjamin J. Leverett passed away on April 20 and was laid to rest Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Park, which was reserved for family, while the service at Calvary Church was open to everyone who knew him.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue said, “It is with profound sadness to announce the sudden and untimely death of AFR member Paramedic Lt. Benjamin Leverett. We ask that you keep Ben’s family in your thoughts as we grieve through this difficult time.”

Eldorado alumni shared their memories and thoughts of Benjamin on a social media alumni page saying he was way too young at the age of 39, and that he touched many people’s lives. His partner said he was working toward becoming a captain and had a love for flying, aspiring to get a pilot’s license in his spare time.

His obituary in the Albuquerque Journal said, “Benjamin was a Lieutenant with Albuquerque Fire Rescue working as a Firefighter and Paramedic. Benjamin is survived by his parents, Juliette and Gary, three brothers Andrew, Russell, and Jonathan (Tara, Colton & Brady). His girlfriend Gena and her children Julian, Kendall, and Lucía shared the last five years with Benjamin. He graduated from Eldorado HS and the University of New Mexico. His loyal Dalmatian, Faith, was always by his side.”

According to the obituary, it is asked that people plant a rose bush in his memory to honor Lt. Leverett instead of sending flowers.
