The One Albuquerque: Youth Connect initiative is launching a public art scavenger hunt in September to encourage kids, teens and families to explore Route 66 and celebrate public art in Albuquerque. Scavenger hunt events will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 and 24, and Oct. 1. Maps for the hunts have been available across the city since Sept. 8.
Maps are available for pickup all month long while supplies last at community and multigenerational centers, Albuquerque libraries, the Albuquerque Museum, the International Balloon Museum, Open Space Visitor Center, Jerry Cline Recreation & Tennis Center, and indoor pools.
A riddle will be released the day before each event, and other clues will be posted to the Family & Community Services and the One Albuquerque Instagram pages.
City staff will be stationed in a secret location with prizes, food and fun. The first event will take place in the University of New Mexico area, followed by events in Nob Hill and downtown on the following Saturdays.
The “Map of Enchantment” was created through a grant from the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the scavenger hunt idea came from city teen interns who thought creatively about how to engage youth in Albuquerque.
