Albuquerque Police have arrested a couple for the murder of 65-year-old William Lee Vencill on Sept. 15.

Emery Gallegos and Savannah Davis, both 19, were charged after a dispute over a parking spot at the Northeast Heights Mission Hill apartments. Homicide detectives used surveillance video and other investigative methods to identify Gallegos and Davis, who were taken into custody on Wednesday at a bowling alley where Gallegos works.

During interviews, Gallegos and Davis told detectives they were concerned with Vencill parking near their apartment and confronted him as he was looking for a parking spot. Vencill attempted to back away from the pair, but Davis stood behind the vehicle to prevent the Vencill from leaving. Vencill was able to leave in his vehicle and as he was leaving, Gallegos stated he “shot through the back passenger window to scare him.” Vencill was struck with a single round.

Gallegos and Davis will now be booked into the Metro Detention Center on open counts of murder and tampering with evidence.
