APS released the 2022 prep football schedule Wednesday.
Opening night is Thursday, Aug. 18, featuring three games.
Volcano Vista begins the season hosting 2021 Class 6A state semifinalist Las Cruces on the 19th at Community Stadium.
Volcano then plays West Mesa on the 26th, also at Community.
The Hawks travel to Carlsbad on Sept. 2, and then have a key game against La Cueva, which knocked Volcano Vista out of the Class 6A football playoffs last year in the quarterfinals, on the 9th at Wilson Stadium.
Volcano Vista closes out the month against Sandia (at Wilson), Eldorado (Community) and at Cleveland, the defending state champions.
The Hawks play Cibola on Oct. 7 at Community before enjoying their bye week.
Volcano Vista closes out the regular season with games at Rio Rancho, which lost to Cleveland in the state title game in 2021, on Oct. 21 and against Atrisco Heritage at Community on the 28th.
