Keep Albuquerque Beautiful is having its fourth annual Junk Jog that asks ploggers to compete for litter cleanup along the Valle De Atrisco Bosque Trail in the most highly used and populated areas of the Bosque near the Biopark and Tingley Beach.
The Bosque is the largest cottonwood forest in the world, stretching 200 miles from Cochiti to Bosque Del Apache, and local Albuquerque residents have events throughout the year to clean up along the Bosque to preserve its beauty and delicate ecosystem.
Each plogger receives a plastic garbage bag, gloves and a litter grabber to pick up trash, as well as an official T-shirt. At water stops along the 1-mile-loop route, volunteers will cheer participants on and help ploggers exchange filled garbage bags for new ones. At the end of the jog, each plogger’s trash bags will be tallied and prizes will be given to the top three individuals and groups that collect the most litter.
Registration for the event is closed, but people can still participate at this free Junk Jog from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 22, at Central and Sunset SW.
