Animal Welfare offers mobile services for low-income pet owners

It can be tough for pet owners going through hard times, and the Animal Welfare Department wants to help those owners and pets in need with their “We Care” mobile Community Pet Services Unit. This service is specifically for qualified low- to moderate income families and offers vaccinations and microchipping as well as other free preventive services to help pets continue to live a healthy and long life. 

Cats and dogs must be eight weeks or older, relatively healthy and non-aggressive. 

Participants must over 18 and have proof of qualifications such as ID, proof of an Albuquerque residence, and proof of income eligibility must be presented at the time of an appointment. Proof of low-income status includes an award letter of EBT, SSI, TANF, or Medicaid services, income tax return, or check stubs.  Annual gross income limits are below this article. 

The We Care mobile van will be at the West Gate Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 25, and the Los Volcanes Community center Sunday, Oct. 2, for its mobile clinic and will have continued dates for clinics throughout the city coming soon. 

Also, if pets need to be spayed or neutered the AWD does offer a free voucher lottery program and will be given when an appointment with the mobile unit is made.
